FAQs

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A THROTTLE LOCK AND A CRUISE CONTROL?

A cruise control is an electronic instrument which can accelerate or decelerate your motorcycle to compensate for inclines or declines in a road. Cruise controls are directly connected to your motorcycle's electrical system and speedometer. If your bike doesn't have a cruise control built into it, it will generally be very expensive to add one if your motorcycle is compatible with any cruise control options.

A throttle lock, on the other hand, simply "locks" your throttle in one place, preventing the throttle housing springs from rotating the throttle back to neutral. It doesn't compensate for inclines or declines in the road and is a better aftermarket solution for 99% of motorcycles. To clarify, the ATLAS doesn't "lock" your throttle, it simply applies pressure to hold your throttle in place.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I'M IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION WITH MY ATLAS FULLY ENGAGED?

The ATLAS is designed to be easily overridden while fully engaged. This means you can engage the ATLAS, adjust your speed by slightly rotating the throttle, or fully roll the throttle forward to come to a complete stop.

It only applies enough friction to overcome the throttle body's springs. It doesn't actually lock anything, it just holds it in place. So, in case of an emergency, you would roll the throttle forward, just as you would if the ATLAS wasn't engaged on your motorcycle.

WHAT DOES "UNIVERSAL" MEAN?

We call the ATLAS a Universal Throttle Lock because we did not design it to fit any one motorcycle. Rather, we designed it to fit as many motorcycles as possible, many of them without the need for modifications. Depending on the motorcycle and the choice of grips, minor modifications may need to be made to the motorcycle in order to fit the ATLAS (for example, adjustment of grips). Where applicable, these modifications will be listed in the Fitment Notes section of the applicable order page. If you are not sure about the fit on your specific motorcycle/grip combination, please reach out to us at info@atlasmoto.com for support!

DOES THE ATLAS WORK WITH HEATED GRIPS?

Yes, it does!

This is one other reason why we call the ATLAS a Universal Throttle Lock. The ATLAS mounts to your bike's throttle sleeve, not the grip. Heated grips also mount to the throttle sleeve, which means you can fit both the ATLAS and heated grips on your bike!
