FAQs
WHAT IS THE ATLAS THROTTLE LOCK?
The ATLAS Throttle Lock is a premium motorcycle throttle lock often described as a mechanical cruise control. It holds the throttle at a rider-set position to help maintain speed while allowing instant manual override at all times.
HOW DOES THE ATLAS THROTTLE LOCK WORK?
ATLAS mounts directly to the throttle tube and rotates with the throttle. When engaged, a spring-steel arm with a friction pad presses against the throttle housing to hold throttle position. The rider can freely roll the throttle forward or backward at any time.
Key Benefits:
- Holds the exact throttle position.
- Speed can be adjusted instantly.
- Throttle control is never disconnected.
HOW IS ATLAS DIFFERENT FROM OTHER THROTTLE LOCKS?
Traditional throttle locks resist throttle movement. ATLAS holds position while preserving throttle feel.
In short:
- Exact throttle position holding.
- Instant adjustability.
- One-handed, thumb-operated control.
- Immediate rider override.
IS THE ATLAS THROTTLE LOCK THE SAME AS CRUISE CONTROL?
No, ATLAS is not the same as electronic cruise control.
- No electronics, sensors, or computers.
- Does not automatically adjust speed.
- Maintains a direst mechanical connection between rider and throttle.
Many riders prefer ATLAS as a cruise control alternative because it feels more natural and has no electronics to fail.
IS THE ATLAS THROTTLE LOCK SAFE?
Yes, when used as intended.
- Instant manual override.
- No delayed disengagement.
- No interference with braking or clutch use.
- Throttle can always be closed manually.
The rider always remains in full control.
CAN I OVERRIDE OR ADJUST SPEED WHILE ATLAS IS ENGAGED?
Yes, you can:
- Roll on to increase speed.
- Roll off to slow down.
- Close the throttle instantly in an emergency.
This is a core design feature of the ATLAS Throttle Lock.
DOES THE ATLAS MAINTAIN SPEED ON HILLS OR IN HEADWINDS?
ATLAS holds throttle position, not speed.
- Speed may change uphill, downhill, or in wind.
- Throttle can be adjusted instantly to compensate.
Many riders prefer this predictable behavior over electronic systems, which may lurch or otherwise have sudden speed changes when the computer tries to compensate.
WILL THE ATLAS THROTTLE LOCK FIT MY MOTORCYCLE?
ATLAS fits most motorcycles, including:
- Adventure
- Touring
- Sport
- Cruiser
Two versions (Top Kit and Bottom Kit) cover most applications. Use the Fitment Chart to confirm compatibility, especially if you have heated or aftermarket grips.
If you have questions about compatibility for your specific motorcycle, reach out to us at info@atlasmoto.com with pictures of the throttle housing and grip, and we will help determine which ATLAS you need and if there are any special considerations.
DOES THE ATLAS WORK WITH HEATED GRIPS OR BAR-END ACCESSORIES?
In most cases, yes. ATLAS is compatible with:
- Heat grips
- Handguards / Barkbusters
- Bar-end mirrors and weights
Fitment depends on grip wiring orientation. Refer to the Fitment Chart or contact support at info@atlasmoto.com for confirmation.
HOW DIFFICULT IS INSTALLATION?
Most installs take 5–10 minutes and require no permanent modifications. Some motorcycles may require minor adjustments; check the Fitment Chart for notes regarding specific models. Note the Fitment Chart may not be entirely comprehensive as it assumes a stock throttle and grip configuration, and certain model years may have special considerations.

WILL THE ATLAS DAMAGE MY THROTTLE OR HANDLEBARS?
ATLAS mounts to the throttle tube and does not damage grips, handlebars, or the throttle housing when installed correctly. Light marks on the throttle tube are possible due to the ATLAS being stainless steel, and most throttle tubes will be plastic or nylon.
IS THE ATLAS THROTTLE LOCK LEGAL?
Throttle lock legality varies by region. Customers are responsible for verifying local laws before use. We recommend checking regulations in your area. ATLAS Moto will ship to most locations irrespective of legality of use.
WHO IS THE ATLAS THROTTLE LOCK BEST FOR?
ATLAS is ideal for riders who:
- Ride long highway stretches.
- Experience wrist or forearm fatigue.
- Want a cruise control alternative without electronics.
- Prefer mechanical simplicity.
- Own multiple motorcycles and want to transfer a single ATLAS Throttle Lock between them.
WHY CHOOSE THE ATLAS OVER CHEAPER THROTTLE LOCKS?
- Precision laser-cut stainless steel construction.
- Preserves natural throttle feel.
- Easy to swap between bikes.
- Intuitive, ergonomic operation.
CAN ATLAS BE USED OFF-ROAD?
Yes, with discretion. Many adventure riders use ATLAS on gravel roads and highway connectors. Disengage during technical riding where constant throttle modulation is required.
CAN I PURCHASE ADDITIONAL FRICTION PADS?
Yes. Additional friction pads are available on our website as part of the Hardware Pack.
If you require additional friction pads of a single size, please reach out to us at info@atlasmoto.com. We are happy to accommodate orders for specific sizes of friction pads. Please note we may not be able to do so for international customers.
DOES THE ATLAS THROTTLE LOCK REQUIRE MAINTENANCE?
Minimal maintenance is required.
- Periodically inspect installation.
- Keep the throttle housing clean.
- Replace the friction pad as needed.
